This is the big one!
This deck will provide you with a basis of more than 760 words of Gàidhlig vocabulary that will become the foundation for your language learning journey. Each word is presented in multiple formats to maximize retention, so by buying this deck, you get over 2,000 individual cards!
Anki is a powerful multi-media flash card app that is free to download on your desktop or laptop. You can download and install the app from the Anki website. There are smartphone apps available for iPhone AnkiMobile Flashcards app (there is a cost for the iPhone app); as well as the Ankidroid app.
You can read more about the Anki System and how to use the decks here.
Once you’ve downloaded it and installed it, you can upload this Fundamentals of Gàidhlig deck.
Anki uses spaced repetition, so each time you see a particular card, you can indicate how easy it was to answer correctly. The easier it is for you, the longer the interval of repetition will be.
For the audio files, I’ve collaborated with Fiona Smith and Rich Hill, two fantastic Gàidhlig language teachers from Colaisde na Gàidhlig.
Each word is supplemented with colour differentiated word-type cards, audio files, supplemental information about different forms of each word, as well as aspects of subconscious support built right into each card.
Each word needs to be customized and personalized by you and for you. One of the principles that makes using Anki so effective is that it allows you to take an abstract word, and make it deeply relevant to you. I’ve done everything I can for you on this deck, and you get to finish them off and make them uniquely yours!
Please visit my YouTube channel and watch the introductory and tutorial videos for more details before you begin to use this deck.
Anki is a spaced-repetition system, so cards that you do today will repeat in a little while - so my advice is - start small; just 10 cards each day or so. Once you’ve built your learning time into your daily routine, you can determine how much to do.
Again, I’ll say - start small - if you do 100 cards in one day you might feel great now… but in a week or so when that 100 cards shows up in your “to do today” list, you may not have time for it.
