This offering is for those who feel deeply called to the Zen path and are seeking guidance, structure, and relationship within a living tradition.

Rooted in the Rinzai lineage and offered in collaboration with Zenwest Buddhist Society, this mentorship supports practitioners through structured practice, relational guidance, and traditional forms.

It is not a casual or inspirational space — it is a working relationship, grounded in discipline, presence, and care.

What mentorship includes

Depending on your experience and readiness, the mentorship may include:

  • Two private 1:1 practice meetings per month — 30-40 minutes each

  • Inquiry and reflection on Dharma in daily life

  • Koan study — when appropriate

  • Guidance in ritual, precepts, and liturgy

  • Support integrating spiritual practice into lay life

  • Practice structure, rhythm, and accountability

Available online via Zoom or in person — in Shawnigan Lake, BC

Who this is for

This mentorship is open to committed practitioners who:

  • Are active members of an established Zen Sangha (Zenwest or another)

  • Have an established Zen practice

  • Have the awareness and blessing of their current teacher, if applicable

  • Are ready to engage in an ongoing relationship of spiritual training

Is This the Right Fit?

This mentorship offering isn’t appropriate for everyone — and that’s okay.

If you’re new to Zen and looking for a place to begin — I recommend starting with the free Orientation to Zen program at zenwest.ca, and invite you to consider the 1:1 Guided Support for Beginners I offer alongside it.

If you’re looking for a more open or interspiritual approach — you may be better supported through my Spiritual Direction & Animist Mentorship work.

This particular mentorship is likely not a fit if you:

  • Are exploring Zen casually or out of curiosity

  • Are seeking inspiration without the structure of committed practice

  • Prefer a coaching or personal development model over traditional training

Not sure where you belong? Feel free to reach out — I’m happy to help guide you toward the right support.

Financial exchange & commitment

The exchange for this mentorship is:

  • $150/month CAD + GST — includes two 30–40 minute private meetings

  • Additional sessions (for ongoing mentees) are available at $100/hour CAD

This is a significant reduction from my clinical rate ($175/hour for Trancework). The exchange reflects both accessibility and the depth of attention and presence offered in this relationship.

This isn’t a service or a subscription — it’s stepping into a reciprocal relationship of training and practice.

Boundaries & Expectations

This mentorship is rooted in relationship — and that means clear agreements help support both of us.

  • Sessions are scheduled in advance using the online booking system

  • Mentorship includes two private meetings per month

  • I reply to mentorship-related emails on Tuesdays and Thursdays only

  • Email responses are brief and focused on practice

  • Additional support requests may require booking an extra session

This structure protects the integrity of the mentorship, and ensures the rhythm of practice isn’t lost in informal overflow.

About Me

My name is Teàrlach Eshū Martin Kilgour. I’m an ordained full priest — Osho, and Dharma teacher — Zenji in the Rinzai Zen tradition, with over 25 years of practice and teaching experience. My Dharma name is Kōsēn Eshū (紅仙恵秀) — often translated as Red Mountain Hermit or Red Wizard.

I serve as Abbot of Zenwest Buddhist Society, and guide students through Monarch Trancework, where this mentorship is housed. My background includes decades of Zen training, koan study, Sangha leadership, and teaching in both lay and formal practice settings.

I was ordained in the Rinzai Zen tradition in 1999 by Kyozan Joshu Sasaki Roshi and trained over several years with his senior students. In time, I stepped forward to publicly address serious misconduct in that community.

I continued my training with Kokan Genjo Marinello Roshi, Abbot of Dai Bai Zan Cho Bo Zen Ji (Chobo-ji) in Seattle, WA, from whom I received the title of Osho (Zenji). I remain affiliated with Chobo-ji and the broader lay Rinzai network.

I’m based on Vancouver Island, Canada, and committed to offering relational, lineage-rooted Zen practice to those seeking structure and support — particularly those who find themselves practicing without access to an authorized teacher or living sangha.

Step Into Mentorship

If you’re ready to begin, the first step is a one-on-one consultation.

This is a 20–30 minute conversation where we’ll get to know each other, explore your current practice, and see whether this mentorship is the right fit — for both of us. If we choose to proceed, we’ll schedule your first session and establish a regular rhythm.

Eshu has a gift of insight and can wade through the dross, getting to the heart of any matter.
